#donauncuore is an invitation to do something big through a small contribution, in order to make the difference and reduce the infant mortality rate caused by congenital heart disease, not only in Italy, but all over the world.
Your contribution will be a fundamental support for us in order to carry out the campaign and contribute to the training of young professionals who will take part in #donauncuore project.
The initiative promoted by Prof. Alessandro Frigiola, who in recent years has played an important role in medicine in the training of young doctors, consists in the molding of hearts with congenital defects on which young professionals will be able to operate by putting their knowledge and reducing learning times, in the absence of the possibility of actively participating in interventions and operations during the internship period, according to EU standards.
3D printing in the medical field is a technology in continuous development. In fact it allows to reproduce organs, bones, prostheses and customizable health devices according to the needs of the doctor and/or patien.
There are many shortcomings in the health systems of the various countries, especially the developing ones, and the most worrying aspect is the lack of human resources such as doctors and nurses, with greater consideration in the field of cardiac surgery and interventional cardiology, where the training is the most important tool for the education and training of new doctors. The association Bambini Cardiopatici Nel Mondo together with Vicario Cinque have decided to support and disseminate this important fundraising campaign, in order to finance the creation of 50 hearts that can be made available to young doctors.
Who is Alessandro Frigiola?
Doctor and Professor Alessandro Frigiola is Director of the Heart - Child Surgical Area at the IRCCS Policlinico San Donato in Milan. Specialized in pediatric surgery at the University of Padua, he obtained a second specialization in Cardiac Surgery at the University of Bologna. His training continued abroad, attending the Hôpital De La Timone in Marseille. In 1993 he founded the Association of Cardiopathic Children in the World based in Milan, with which he organizes and participates in more than 400 humanitarian missions in numerous countries. Author of numerous publications and scientific articles, he stands out for being a pioneer in the field of cardiac surgery, with more than 12,000 cardiac operations behind him, performed on adults and children. The hearts of 3,275 children beat in his chest and this is what motivates him to train more and more young professionals, in order to defeat and contain, where possible, infant mortality.
Stefano Lora and Vicario Cinque team
Stefano Lora is an entrepreneur and visionary from Vicenza. With thirty years of experience in representation and distribution in sportswear, he founded the Vicario Cinque brand in 2014 with the desire to reinvent the concept of slow fashion. The brand is aimed at an aware public, carrying on the tradition of Made in Italy and local businesses, enhancing a new figure of woman from collection to collection, aware of her femininity, elegance and singularity.
A team of doctors, specialists and 3D designers graphically reproduces the model of a heart affected by a certain heart disease, thus creating the prototype on which the team will then intervene and operate. Each organ is able to withstand multiple operations and interventions thanks to the innovative molding materials that allow various actions to be repeated before complete wear and consequent replacement, allowing multiple doctors to train on the same prototype to then prepare for the intervention in the field .
Thanks to this campaign we will be able to produce 50 hearts.
This month is particularly important as it is the month of cardiovascular prevention, in particular February 14 is World Congenital Heart Day. Established by the Council of Ministers and in line with ministerial policies for health promotion and prevention. We therefore want to raise awareness and involve you in a topic that has always been widespread but little known such as congenital heart disease, which in Italy affects 8-10 newborns, out of a total of one thousand live births, for a total of about 4,000 victims per year.
We don't want to do it alone, but to involve the whole community in participating in a project as important as children life!
Every contribution can make a difference and you will have saved a life forever.
