Our baseball Field of Dreams: "if we rebuild him, he'll come back" - English version

In the famous baseball film Field of Dreams it was said: "If you build it, he will come". Today we say "If we rebuild it, baseball will come back". Our very own field of dreams has fallen into an abyss. We at Godo Baseball are approaching our 60th anniversary, and never before have we felt so helpless. The floods that have afflicted the Emilia Romagna region starting 16 May also affected us: the field is submerged.

Many kids have passed by our baseball field in Godo over the many years. We carry them in our hearts, as they carry us in theirs, after spending part of their life here. Now, our young athletes and kids must be able to come back to our diamond as soon as possible. This is what we wish for.

And this is also what we all deserve, people of Romagna: to go back to doing our job because this is what has always motivated us over time. The thought of the day when we and all our people will rise from this mud pushes us. We want it to happen as soon as possible. We want to go back to sweating on the mound, chattering our teeth at night, and enjoying a fiery red sunset from the green lawn.

To do all that, we need your help, friends. We cannot do it alone.

Our story began in 1964, with simple balls of elastic bands and uniforms sewn by mothers, from the passion and vision of a few kids, who built a dream with tenacity and stubbornness. Our history is made up of special people, who support us even if only with their memory.

Our club is honorably competing in the top Italian Baseball League, in which we compete at the highest level among the ten best teams in the country. In addition to this, we have a pool of children and young people who play in the various championships (little league, U12, U14), without forgetting the precious franchise that gives rise to Bizantina Baseball, together with our neighbors ​​from Ravenna, who have already lent their hand to help for the various difficulties that await us, together with many other realities that we will thank one by one.

Godo is a tiny country on the map with a huge heartbeat for baseball.

Over the years we have always fought for the best, we have raised young talents who have played in other important national realities, we have had athletes from other parts of Italy with whom we have gone far beyond the sporting relationship, and we have often been the springboard for our athletes from overseas, who then had a good career in other teams after showing off in our ranks. Our summer tournaments have seen the participation of children and teenagers from all over Italy and have always been an opportunity for fun and healthy competition. And the memory of all this feeds the fire of our redemption.

On the morning of May 18th, we woke up with the images of destruction that are shown in the video, but through tears, we had to find a way out.
Because in the face of the drama that our land is experiencing, we lower our heads only to hunch it more in our shoulders and face the difficulties like a battering ram.

Anyone who knows us knows how much we love this sport, and knows how much we fight with all of our strength to hold on to our results.
We recently celebrated an important milestone in terms of our participation in the season seed, and we want to honor our commitment.

To restart as soon as possible, we cannot ask for immediate help to a battered region: the Authorities have to assist families who have lost everything, businesses are on their knees, and above all, we want to respect the many victims of this mud.

With this crowdfunding campaign, managed in complete transparency and with the demonstration of the results, we hope to get homeplate as soon as possible.

We have an initial goal of 8,000 euros, to cover the costs of cleaning and minimal restoration. But it won't end there.

We don't know what awaits us once the water has completely drained, but we know for sure that there will be a lot of damage: the sports facility is submerged, and so is the lighting system, including the generator and poles, the dugouts, the changing rooms, the warehouses with their contents, the red earth, the voice system, the common areas, and the stands.

In order to get back to the Godo baseball field, there will be important work of reinforcing the soil, stabilizing it, and we will need experts to have it checked for safety.

We will have to put our hands on everything that was and will be on our baseball field, which we will fill again thanks to your heart.

Our dream today is to come back all together to see each other here once again. You know that we always welcome everyone with open arms and this time we want a big party.
